The eighth Mikser Festival, the largest regional festival of creativity and innovation, will be held for the fifth time in the Belgrade neighborhood of Savamala, from 8 – 12 June 2016. Under the slogan “Society Sensitive” the Festival will be characterized by topics of gender equality and female creativity, social equality, open dialogue, multiculturalism and efficient conflict resolution.
On the main stage, Miksalište (Mostarska 5), we’ll showcase music from the region that has significantly contributed to defining the Balkan sound. On the last day of the Mikser Festival, 12 June, the legendary band Mostar Sevdah Reunion will be joined by the queen of Roma music, Esma Redžepova.
Esma Redžepova is considered by many to have the most beautiful voice in the Balkans. She will perform at Miksalište on 12 June, the last day of the Mikser Festival. With more than five decades of work, Esma can boast performances at major international festivals and has won numerous prestigious awards. She is also engaged in humanitarian work, contributing to the overall betterment of the society. She has sponsored by the opening and restoration of several hospitals and orphanages, and is an advocate for Roma rights. She has won the UNICEF Award and was nominated twice for the Nobel Peace Prize.
The public will have the opportunity to listen to Esma Redžepova perform on 12 June at the Mikser Festival. She will be joined by one of the best world music groups and bands with whom she has often cooperated, the band Mostar Sevdah Reunion, which, after a successful and sold-out concert at Mikser House in November, will again return before the Belgrade public.
Mostar Sevdah Reunion formed in the nineties in Mostar as the idea of producer Dragog Šestića. Today, it is considered one of the best and most famous Balkan bands in the world music scene. Over the past 15 years, they’ve worked with many great artists of world music, participated in over one hundred world music and jazz festivals around the world and been the main theme of four films and numerous television shows.
Tickets for the last day of the Mikser Festival, 12 June, are available at all Gigs Tix sales locations (Mikser House, Vulkan Bookstores, Corner Shops) for the price of 900 dinars until 15 May. From 15 May on, the ticket price will be 1200 dinars.
